Come and enjoy with us a most exciting tour of the old city of Bhera in district Sargodha, right on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway M2. Bhera is one of the oldest cities of Pakistan and once rivaled Lahore in population and importance. The term “hidden treasure” can truly describe the magnificence of this city. Since the time of Mahmood Ghaznavi, Bhera has been an important city, and during his numerous invasions of India, he conquered this city as well. This historically important city has always been a center of trade and culture, and in this day tour, we will embark on a journey from Islamabad to explore this historic city. It boasts of many historic landmarks, the grandest of them all which we will visit is the Sher Shah Suri mosque, a masterpiece of old architecture. Then we will visit another famous mosque, known as Sheikhon Wali Masjid, which was built in 1801 is an amazing piece of architecture of that era. The surrounding mohalla still has the air of an old walled city where we will see several old houses with carved wooden doors, windows, and balconies. A tour of these pre-partition mohallas will take you back into pre-partition time when Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs lived together peacefully. Besides many mosques, Bhera has four old Hindu temples and a Sikh gurdwara. One of these temples has Shiv Ling, perhaps the only one in the whole Pakistani Punjab. It will be a great experience to study the lifestyle and architecture of Hindus.
